Binod Paudel, producer of the upcoming Nepali film “Abhimanyu: Chapter 1,” has urged audiences not to categorize his film as a “small film.” He argued that the scale of a film should not be judged by its budget or star cast but by its performance and revenue after release.
Paudel said that while a film earning more may be considered big and one earning less small, the belief that star-studded films are automatically superior is misleading. “Not every film with a star cast succeeds, and films without popular stars can also become major hits,” he said.
His earlier production, “Purnabahadurko Sarangi,” reinforces this claim. Made on a budget of around 15 million rupees, the film grossed over 468 million rupees at the Nepali box office, breaking previous records. “So, should we still call it a small film?” Paudel questioned.
Paudel’s second film, “Abhimanyu: Chapter 1,” is scheduled for release on December 3. The film faced multiple postponements, but Paudel remains confident, calling it a movie made for “underdogs” and warning viewers not to underestimate it.
Produced under the banner of Seven Seas Cinema, the film features Kameshwor Chaurasiya, Sarita Giri, Kiran Shrestha, Laxmi Bardewa, Gaumaya Gurung, Prakash Dahal, and Shishir Bangdel in key roles.
Directed by Sushant Gautam, the film lists Madan Thapa as creative director and Mukesh Khanal as writer. Paudel and Gunjan Giri serve as producers, with executive producers Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel, and Sandesh Shrestha. Jivan Shakya is the line producer.
Shot by Sharad Mahato, the film features VFX by Manoj Shrestha, color grading by Junim Gahtoraj, and editing by Madan Ghimire. “Abhimanyu: Chapter 1” will be released in both Nepali and Hindi across Nepal, India, and worldwide.
