Nepali blockbuster Paran, which has already dominated the domestic box office, is now performing strongly overseas as well. The film has collected AUD 62,000 within its first four days of release in Australia, according to distributor company Namaste Entertainment. The company holds the distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand.
The movie is currently screening in more than 30 shows across Australia. Based on its initial performance, Paran has secured the sixth position at the Australian box office, standing among Bollywood and Hollywood titles. Distributors estimate that the film may surpass AUD 100,000 by the end of the week.
In Nepal, Paran has grossed NPR 141.6 million so far, earning more than NPR 10 million even on its fourth Saturday. The film was released on October 30 (Kartik 14) and was not initially expected to be a major commercial performer before release.
Directed by Dipak Prasad Acharya, Paran stars Nir Shah, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Pooja Chand, Keki Adhikari, Anjana Baraili, Prabin Khatiwada, Mahesh Tripathi, and Buddhi Tamang. The film is produced by Ranjit Acharya and Shekhar Golchha.
