Nepali film “Abhimanyu: Chapter 1”, released on Thursday, has received positive reviews from audiences. Viewers have praised the film for realistically portraying Nepali society and highlighting the harsh realities created by the dowry system in the Tarai–Madhesh region.
Audiences say the film effectively captures the devastating impact of dowry practices while also presenting the evolving social narrative of Nepal. A viewer who watched the film in the cinema hall said, “The gradual journey of the female lead reflects today’s Nepali society. Women are walking this path in real life, and the film felt relatable.”
Many viewers said the film struck them “right in the heart” and recommended it to friends and family. “Everyone should watch it. It’s our own society’s story, and many will find it relatable,” another viewer added.
The film stars Kameshwor Chaurasiya and Laxmi Bardewa in lead roles, along with Kiran Shrestha, Gaumaya Gurung, Laxmi Giri, Prakash Dahal, and Shishir Bangdel. Rekha Thapa appears in a guest role.
Directed by Sushant Gautam, the film’s creative director is Madan Thapa, with the story written by Mukesh Khanal. The producers are Binod Paudel and Gunjan Giri, and the co-producers are Ramesh Chaulagain and Hari Shrestha. Executive producers include Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel, and Sandesh Shrestha. Jeevan Shakya serves as the line producer.
