Nepali film “Abhimanyu: Chapter–1”, directed by Sushant Gautam, has secured an impressive 500-plus shows across Australia and New Zealand for its first week of release beginning December 11.
Co–producer Ramesh Chaulagain said that due to strong audience demand, additional shows are likely to be added. He stated that the film’s positive reception and reviews in Nepal are expected to influence the diaspora market as well.
Released in Nepal last Thursday, the film has been performing strongly, recording high occupancy in theaters.
“Abhimanyu: Chapter–1” explores two major social issues — the persistent dowry system in the Madhes region and the growing trend of ‘easy money’ schemes in modern Nepali society. Both critics and audiences have praised the film for its suspenseful storytelling and realistic portrayal.
Following widespread appreciation, viewers have already begun demanding a sequel. Since the film is subtitled “Chapter–1,” a sequel is considered highly likely.
The film’s creative director is Madan Thapa, with writing by Mukesh Khanal. It is produced by Binod Paudel and Gunjan Giri, with co–producers Ramesh Chaulagain and Hari Shrestha.
Executive producers include Bishal Lama, Hari Moktan, Krishna Bhattarai, Nirajan Luintel and Sandesh Shrestha.
Sharad Mahato serves as the director of photography, Manoj Shrestha heads VFX, Junim Gahtelaj leads color grading, and Madan Ghimire handles editing.
Jeevan Shakya is the line producer.
