Kathmandu – A grand premiere of the film “Permanent Resident: PR”, set for release this Friday (December 11), was held on Wednesday evening at QFX City Square, Samakhushi. The production team organized the special screening two days prior to its official release.
The event saw the presence of journalists and notable figures including Film Development Board Chairperson Dinesh DC, director Deepa Shree Niraula, actors Gauri Malla, Rekha Thapa, Karishma KC, Regina Upreti, Deepak Acharya (Kaku), Jay Kishan Basnet, Sabin Shrestha, Nirmal Sharma, Salinman Baneya, Prabhat Pal, singer Devika Bandana, among other celebrities.
Actress Rekha Thapa praised the film, saying it was very well made and that the performances of the new actors were impressive.
Similarly, Film Development Board Chair Dinesh DC appreciated director Shobhit Basnet’s work and the overall performances, stating, “Every Nepali should watch this film.”
Many attendees shared positive impressions of the film.
Actor Salinman Baneya remarked that the lead actors delivered mature performances, adding, “For a debut film, they have done exceptionally well—better than what I did in my own debut.”
Director Shobhit Basnet expressed happiness over the appreciation towards his cast. He said,
“When they entered the hall, hardly anyone recognized them. But when they walked out to applause and people requesting photos, it felt like the film had truly succeeded.”
Director Deepa Shree Niraula, Gauri Malla, Regina Upreti, Karishma KC, Jay Kishan Basnet and others also congratulated and extended best wishes to debut actors Suraj Paudel and Vinita Karki.
Regina Upreti mentioned she was emotionally moved by certain scenes, noting that the film effectively portrays the hardships Nepalis face abroad.
Storyline
The film depicts the struggles of Nepali students in Australia as they pursue permanent residency (PR), along with the pressure of family debts and emotional burden. It was filmed in both Australia and Nepal under the direction of Shobhit Basnet.
Cast
Produced under the banner of Salon Salina Films, the film stars R.A. Suraj Paudel, Vinita Karki, Rajan Kunwar, Pooja Chaudhary, Ashma Adhikari Mastani, Bimala Khatri, Ganesh Budhathoki, Max Krishna Thapa, and Navin Ghayal in lead roles.
Special appearances include Nir Shah, Gauri Malla, Rabindra Khadka, Uttam KC Nepal, and Dikpal Karki.
Technical Team
The film is presented by Ranjit Sah and Santosh Tiwari, with investment from Laxman Sapkota and Pradeep Dahal. Edited by Bande Prasad, written by Ganesh Budhathoki, and cinematographed by Saurabh Sayami and Saurabh Lama.
