Kathmandu: The trailer of the Nepali feature film Ekló has been officially released during a special event held at Labim Mall, Lalitpur. The nearly three-minute trailer was launched through OSR Digital’s official YouTube channel, with director-writer Pradeep Shahi and the main cast in attendance.

Actors Pradeep Khadka, Vijay Lama, Sunil Thapa, Diya Pun, Venisha Hamal, Dinesh DC, Kavita Nepali, and Suraj Singh Thakuri were present at the event. Dinesh DC, also the Chair of the Film Development Board, shared that he joined the project despite his busy schedule because he found the film’s subject compelling. Director Shahi expressed confidence that Ekló will introduce Nepal internationally through its strong technical and cinematic presentation.

Shahi, known for directing Antim Sanskar and Gorkhas: The Bravery, said he has blended Eastern spiritual elements with Western cinematic genres in Ekló. The film was shot in picturesque locations including Panauti (Kavre) and Mustang.

Set in a fictional future where Earth becomes uninhabitable due to a deadly virus by 2030, the story jumps 60 years ahead as British astronaut Jack (Jamie Bacon) and his team crash-land in the Himalayas. Their exploration leads them to a hidden city inside a mountain cave, where they encounter a mysterious guardian of the Himalayas—played by Pradeep Khadka. This meeting marks the beginning of the film’s central narrative arc, with the remaining story unfolding in its second chapter.

The film participated in various events during the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it gained attention from international distributors, sales agents, OTT platforms, and filmmakers.

Ekló is set for its historic world premiere on December 28 at the renowned Museum of the Moving Image in New York. The science-fiction feature will release globally, including in Nepal, from Poush 17.

Produced with investment from the NRN group, the film’s executive producer is Vinod Subedi ‘Kshitiz’. The cast includes Pradeep Khadka, Vijay Lama, Sunil Thapa, Diya Pun, Venisha Hamal, Dinesh DC, Kavita Nepali, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Awan Raj Upreti, Trichu Rai, Krishnabhakta Maharjan, Bikash Adhikari, Diggaj Khatri, Vinod Subedi ‘Kshitiz’, Shreeshesh Shrestha, child actors Jemin Shrestha and Syon Sabik Singh, along with British actor Jamie Bacon.
