Film Development Board Invites Applications to Digitize Old Nepali Films

Kathmandu. The Film Development Board under Nepal’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has invited applications for the digitization of old Nepali films.

According to a notice published by the Film Development Board, Chabahil, Kathmandu, the program aims to preserve and promote domestically produced films that were made using celluloid technology and have not yet been converted into digital format.

Interested film producers or authorized rights holders must submit their applications in the prescribed format within 21 days from the date of the notice’s publication. Details regarding eligibility criteria, application forms, and required documents are available on the Film Development Board’s official website and notice board.

Commenting on the initiative, Film Development Board Chairperson Dinesh DC stated that Nepali films are an important part of the country’s cultural and historical heritage, making digitization essential.
“Old Nepali films are not just a source of entertainment; they are vital records of our society, time, and history. Preserving them through digitization is a necessity today. This program will help safeguard disappearing films and pass them on to future generations,” he said.

The Board stated that through this initiative, it aims to ensure the long-term preservation of old Nepali films, support research and academic study, and expand the international reach of Nepali cinema.
