Kathmandu. All episodes of the web series Latthak, based on Nepali rural life, social realities, and satirical humor, have been released on YouTube.
Created with the aim of presenting the globally popular sitcom comedy format in a distinctly Nepali context, Latthak seeks to entertain audiences while also offering satirical commentary on contemporary social issues.
Conceptualized and directed by Sagar Gyawali, the web series marks a significant milestone in his directing career. Having nurtured an interest in direction since his school days, Gyawali considers Latthak his official directorial debut. After directing his first web series four years ago, he has since directed more than a hundred music videos and is currently involved in the production of the film Malati Mangale.
Gyawali stated that he ventured into film production to help realize others’ dreams, but now plans to move forward consistently as a director. He also revealed that a second season of Latthak will be produced if the audience response is positive, and that preparations are underway to announce a new feature film under his direction. The series has been released via Music Nepal’s official YouTube channel.
Set in a rural Nepali backdrop, Latthak features strong performances by both veteran and emerging actors. The cast includes Subash Gajurel, Abhay Raj Baral, Shaku Shah, Kabita Ale, Rokit Karki, Ranjit Rana, Rohit Khatri, Shila Khanal, Jeevan Jung Thapa, Dibas Bikram Bohara, Manisha Bhujel, Indrajit Chaulagain, Laxman Chaulagain, Umisha Pandey, Sarita Bhandari, Rachana Paudel, Gita Khadka, Shreya Dulal, and KB Paudel, among others.
Veteran actor Subash Gajurel, known for his iconic role as ‘Shreeram Baje’ nearly 25 years ago, appears in Latthak as ‘Swaha Baje’. Actor Abhay Raj Baral, who rose to fame through Hostel Returns, is also expected to gain further appreciation from audiences through this series, while actress Shaku Shah sees Latthak as a new turning point in her acting career.
Latthak is produced under the presentation of Music Nepal and Original Media, in collaboration with Off Sync Films. Cinematography has been handled by Narayan G.C., with editing and color grading by Anil Kumar Maharjan. The story is written by Kaji Limbu, while the title song is composed by Dixit Adhikari. Background score is provided by Alish Karki, Nixon Uday, and Pratik Thapa. The creative director is Madan Ghimire, and the producer is Sajan Thapa.
According to the director, Latthak offers a distinct flavor in Nepali web series by portraying rural lifestyles, social anomalies, and humor in a simple yet impactful manner.
