Kathmandu — The 5th edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival is scheduled to take place from 10–12 Baisakh next year. Organized by Celebrity Nepal, the festival has invited entries of Nepali films based on authentic rural stories.
According to the organizers, short films, documentaries, feature films, and films in various local languages reflecting village life are eligible to participate. Selected films will be screened at the festival, and awards will be given in different categories for outstanding films.
The festival aims to increase audience interest in traditional Nepali cinema, foster a culture of regular film-watching, promote rural-themed films internationally, and showcase local languages, arts, culture, and tourism.
Festival chairman Raghunath Sapkota said the festival, held under the slogan “Our village, our place, our language, our films”, will include screenings, interactive sessions, and workshops.
Sapkota added, “We have consistently included films based on authentic rural stories. This helps connect audiences in villages without cinemas to the world of cinema.”
The festival has previously been held in Laprak (Gorkha), Bhakunde Besi (Kavrepalanchok), Ramechhap, and Rasuwa. The venue for this year’s festival is yet to be finalized, according to festival coordinator Kamal Ekchai Magar. The event is organized in collaboration with the Film Development Board.
