Film distributor Rohit Kattel has stepped into film production, serving as executive producer of Mirmire. Kattel is the managing director of distribution company RR Films.
Explaining his decision to move into production, Kattel said the film’s story convinced him to invest. Written and directed by Yam Sherpa, Mirmire appealed to him immediately upon narration.
“From a production standpoint, Mirmire is my third film,” Kattel said. “When director Yam Sherpa narrated the story, I genuinely liked it. When a strong story comes along, collaboration feels natural.”
He said the father-daughter relationship portrayed in the film deeply resonated with him. “It’s a story found in every Nepali household,” he added. “Many of us have lived through or witnessed this reality.”
Kattel said he remains open to producing story-driven films, adding that bringing quality cinema to audiences—through distribution or production—is his responsibility.
Set to release from January 14 (Magh 1), Mirmire is presented by Yarsa Films and stars Dayahang Rai, Prakash Saput, Sirjana Ninglekhu, Mao Tse Gurung, Chhulthim Gurung, Bholaraj Sapkota, Bimal Yadav, Shaisa Gauchan, Divisha Pant, Chirag Shrestha, and Namanraj Gajurel.
The film is produced by Nimu Sherpa, Chongba Lama Sherpa, and Angchhiring Sherpa, with Govind Bohara and Sudip Kunwar as co-producers. Rohit Kattel serves as executive producer. Nationwide distribution will be handled by RR Films.
