Kathmandu — Nepal has officially entered the era of world-class Dolby Atmos sound, making high-quality post-production for films and music possible within the country. Leading music company Music Nepal has launched Nepal’s first Dolby Atmos-certified post-production studio.

With a four-decade legacy, Music Nepal formally inaugurated Music Nepal Audio Visual on Friday. The studio is located at the Nepal Music School premises in Gaushala–Pingalasthan.

According to Music Nepal CEO Santosh Sharma, the studio will begin full operations from Saturday. After India, Nepal has now become the next South Asian country where Dolby has expanded its certified studio network. Dolby India Director Sameer Seth, along with senior sound engineers Daman Sud and Bharat Reddy, are overseeing the setup and operations in Kathmandu.

Renowned Bollywood sound engineer Daman Sud—who had also set up Music Nepal’s first and second studios in 1991—has worked with legendary filmmakers such as Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The studio offers complete post-production services, including editing, DI, recording, 7.1 pre-mix, and Dolby Atmos mixing. Built at a cost of approximately NPR 100 million, the facility is open to film and music producers at affordable rates, with introductory discounts currently available.

Each studio room is named after Nepal’s iconic Himalayan peaks and the national bird Danphe, with specialized functions assigned to each space.

Sharma stated that the initiative was driven by the need to address sound quality—long considered a weak aspect of Nepali films. As a Dolby-certified studio, it meets international sound standards comparable to Hollywood.

Senior sound engineer Daman Sud believes the studio will significantly impact storytelling and music production in Nepal. “This is not just about equipment; it’s a future-focused platform built for the next decade,” he said, expressing optimism about Nepal’s potential to achieve global recognition, including Oscars and Grammys.

Music Nepal also operates the non-profit Nepal Music School, promoting music education at the grassroots level, and plans to expand into the OTT market in the near future.
