The film ‘Ramitako Pirati’, set to release on Magh 23, is making waves due to its recently released trailer. While lead roles in Nepali cinema usually center on male protagonists, this film focuses on Ramita.
The story revolves around the ups and downs in the life of Ramita, who is in search of true love. The character of Ramita is portrayed by Anna Sharma, alongside Dhiraj Magar and Binay Shrestha. The film also marks the acting debut of singer Sameer Shrestha. The narrative largely revolves around these three characters.
Anna Sharma is not only acting in the film but also serving as the executive producer. She explains that the story presents an emotional journey of a woman discovering, accepting, and choosing herself after a breakup.
“The narrative centers on Ramita’s emotional journey. Although the story begins with a breakup, it is not just about the breakup itself; it explores self-discovery, self-respect, and self-acceptance. We tried to present the film differently from regular movies,” Anna said.
To develop the character of Ramita, Anna worked closely with director Sudipta, spending six months exploring and adapting the role. She expressed excitement about the film’s release, calling the story, character, and role very special.
Initially, Anna joined the project only as an actor after reading the script. Later, working closely with Sudipta and producer Sagar Lamsal, she took on the role of executive producer.
“Our core team was small at first. Through daily meetings and workshops, we reached decisions together. Producer Sagar trusted me with the executive producer role, which became a significant learning opportunity. The role gave me both new kinds of pressure and creative freedom. Responsibilities are many, but the creative freedom is equally enjoyable,” Ana shared.
Ana believes the film sends an important message, especially for the youth and young women: “First, you have to love and care for yourself; only then can you truly love others.”
The film also explores the effects of social media, external validation, and its impact on mental health. Ramita is shown at one point relying on others’ acceptance, which resonates strongly with today’s generation.
The romantic relationship between Anna’s and Sameer’s characters is highlighted through songs that focus on the early stages of love and the connection between the characters.
For Ana, ‘Ramitako Pirati’ is special for three reasons: it is entirely a woman-centric story, it is written and directed by a female director, and it is her first time working as an executive producer.
The film’s executive producer is Santosh Lamsal, while Subas Koirala serves as associate producer and co-director. Sagar Lamsal is the main producer. The music is by Sushant KC, Sameer Shrestha, Mahesh Kafle, Asmita Adhikari, and Kushal Pokhrel, with Shishir Vishankhe as DOP. The film is edited by Sunil Sivakoti, with Kapil Parajuli handling color and Kritika Baral choreographing the songs.
In Kathmandu Valley, the film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment and Apple Entertainment, while outside the valley, distribution will be managed by FD Company.
