Nepali Short Film ‘The Change’ Wins Another International Honor at NCIF 2026

The Nepali short film ‘The Change (Pariwartan)’ has received yet another international recognition. The film won the Special Mention Award in the short film category at the 7th Nepal Cultural International Film Festival (NCIF) 2026, organized by the Nepal Culture and Film Center.

Held in Kathmandu from Magh 16 to 18, the festival screened 85 films from 39 countries. The award was presented during the grand finale ceremony at the Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap, by an international jury panel. Actress and singer Sarita Bharti, actor Pravan Bhusal, and director Dabbu Kshetri received the award on behalf of the film.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sarita Bharti said the film highlights the deep-rooted menstrual discrimination still present in Nepali society, portraying the struggles of a woman affected by such practices. Actor Pravan Bhusal added that the film aims to raise social awareness against harmful traditions.

Previously, The Change had also won a Special Mention Award at the 6th Bogura International Film Festival in Bangladesh. The same team had attended the ceremony there as well.

The film also secured the Best Short Film Award at the Second Rural Film Festival, where Dabbu Kshetri won Best Director, Pravan Bhusal Best Actor, and Sarita Bharti received the Jury Award for Actress.

So far, The Change has won awards at one national and two international film festivals and has been officially selected for several other international festivals.

The short film features Pravan Bhusal and Sarita Bharti in lead roles alongside Kamala Joshi, Madhavraj Kharel, Sharmila Sharma, and Suraj Adhikari. Written and directed by Dabbu Kshetri, the film includes background music by Om Sunar, cinematography by Ramsharan Upreti, and editing by Birendra Bhat ‘Bipin’. It is produced by Arbisa Bhusal, Yubika Budhathoki, and Sarita Bharti under the banner of Vilakshan Creation Pvt. Ltd.
