Kathmandu – The Nepali film ‘Lalima’ is set to release nationwide on Falgun 29. The production team announced the release date on Tuesday along with unveiling the film’s first official poster.
Directed and written by Roshan Miraj, the film stars Roshani Karki in the titular role. The cast also includes Usha Rajak, Shishir Wangdel, Jeevan Bhattarai, Sabin Kattel, Ghanshyam Joshi, and Sushma Niraula in key roles.
According to director Miraj, the story of ‘Lalima’ is inspired by the lived experiences of around 3,000 sex workers. Roshani portrays Lalima, while Usha Rajak plays her mute mother.
Explaining the storyline, Miraj said, “The film revolves around Lalima’s difficult journey. After an incident, her speech-impaired mother is sent to prison. In her struggle to free her mother, Lalima is pushed into the harsh and dark realities of the city, where she endures physical, emotional, and psychological trauma.”
The released poster features Roshani Karki in a solitary frame, sitting by a window in a distressed state, symbolizing the film’s intense emotional core and conflict.
Miraj describes ‘Lalima’ not only as a story of pain but also as a narrative of resilience against exploitation and structural injustice.
The film is produced in collaboration between Faith Aastha and Amplify Change, with Reena Lama serving as the executive producer.
