Kathmandu — Friends Cinemas has expanded its operations with the launch of its third cinema hall in Ilam, following branches in Dharan and Butwal.
The new cinema, located in Ilam Municipality–7, is set to begin operations this Friday. According to director Ashis H. Tamang, the hall has been built with an investment of approximately NPR 35 million and features a single screen with a seating capacity of 190.
The Film Development Board has already granted operational approval. Tamang said the expansion aims to take cinema culture beyond major cities. “While we talk about expanding the film market, cinema halls remain concentrated in Kathmandu and big cities,” he said. “If the market is to grow, modern halls must reach every district.”
He added that Friends Cinemas plans to expand further across the country, arguing that the domestic film market could more than double if audiences outside major urban centres are given proper access to cinema halls.
