Workshops, Training, and Festivals to Promote Indigenous and Mother Tongue Films

Kathmandu: The Film Development Board (FDB) under Nepal’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has signed agreements with 14 ethnic film organizations based on recommendations from its committee for Indigenous and Mother Tongue Cinema promotion.

A total budget of Rs. 41.95 lakh has been approved to support the preservation, promotion, and technical skill development of Indigenous and mother tongue films through training programs, workshops, and festivals.

Key programs under the agreement include direction training, cinematography workshops, scriptwriting and directing workshops, acting and cinematography training, cultural preservation training, and indigenous film festivals, targeting active filmmakers across the country.

FDB Chairman Dinesh DC described the initiative as a significant step toward inclusive film development:

“Nepal is a multilingual and multicultural country. Our film industry must reflect that diversity. Promoting Indigenous and mother tongue films is not just a cultural responsibility but also a means to preserve our national identity. The board is committed to building an inclusive and strong film industry.”

The initiative aims to document local languages, cultures, and community stories while empowering the next generation of filmmakers professionally.

Various ethnic film organizations have welcomed the board’s move, expressing confidence that it will inject new energy into mother tongue film production across the country.
