Janakpurdham. The second edition of the Janakpur International Film Festival concluded successfully in the historic and religious city of Janakpurdham. Held under the theme “Stories Beyond Borders: Where Culture Meets Cinema,” the four-day festival ran from February 20 to 23.
Organized by the Samvad Foundation, the festival screened more than 65 national and international films. The closing ceremony honored outstanding films across multiple categories.
In the International Panorama section, Cups by David Casals-Roma won Best Short Narrative, while Drained by Dreams by Sheikh Al Mamun received Best Feature Narrative. Other winners included Said Capillo by Rostam Nazari (Best Short Documentary), Hamar Ramlila by Rinku Sharma (Best Feature Documentary), and Fear/Starch by Bartosz Jarzycki (Best Animation).
In the Student Panorama ‘Voices of Tomorrow,’ Built on Hope by Kathrin Alice Kovalenko won Best Documentary, while Cats by Danilo Stanimirović was named Best Narrative. The Regional Panorama award went to Sakar Bakar (River Red) by Biplav Biswas. In the Nepali Panorama, Nilo Aakash by Nirmal Poudel won Best Short Narrative, and Mitkpa by Srijan Raj Pandey received Best Documentary.
Festival Coordinator and Foundation Chair Kumar Bhaskar said the event aimed to promote Janakpur’s historical, religious, and cultural identity internationally. Alongside film screenings, the festival featured cultural performances, interactions, and discussions on film tourism.
