Kathmandu. The Patan High Court has declined to issue an immediate interim order to halt the screening of the Nepali film Ramitako Pirati.
A single bench of Justice Lal Bahadur Kunwar ruled that there was no need for an immediate interim order, citing that the film had already passed review by the Central Film Examination Committee. The court has directed the Film Development Board and producer Shiro Films Pvt. Ltd. to submit written responses within 15 days, excluding travel time.
The petition was argued on Monday by lawyers Srishti Bhatt and Laxmi Tamang, who claimed that the film promotes hatred against men and sought a ban on its screening.
The respondents named in the case include the Film Development Board, Shiro Films Pvt. Ltd., executive producer Annapurna Sharma (Ana Sharma), writer Sudipta Adhikari, and producer Sagar Lamsal.
‘Ramitako Pirati’ is currently running in theatres nationwide. The court’s final verdict is yet to be delivered.
