Kathmandu – Actors Roshni Karki and Usha Rajak say working on the upcoming Nepali film “Laalimaa,” set to release on March 13 (Falgun 29), gave them experiences unlike their previous projects.

For Karki, the film marks her first lead role, with the movie even named after her character. She described the opportunity as both exciting and challenging.

“When I received the offer for the lead role, I felt both excited and nervous,” Karki said. “I wondered whether I could carry the entire film on my shoulders.”

Karki also had to prepare differently for the role, as she portrays a sex worker in the film.

“I had never closely observed or interacted with sex workers before. To build the character, I met and spoke with some of them to understand their lives,” she said.

Meanwhile, Usha Rajak appears in the film as a mute mother, a character with a physical disability.

Although Rajak has played roles with physical challenges before, she said this is the first time in her nearly two-decade career that she has taken on a mother’s role.

Known mostly for glamorous roles, Rajak said she decided to accept the character after reading audience feedback on social media.

“People often commented that I should start playing characters that match my age,” Rajak said. “I took that suggestion seriously and chose to play the role of a mother.”

The film also stars Jeevan Bhattarai, along with Sushma Niraula, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sabin Kattel, and Shishir Wangdel.

Written and directed by Roshan Miraj, the trailer of “Laalimaa” is currently trending at No. 4 on YouTube.

The film is presented by Faith Aastha, with Reena Lama as executive producer, while National Cine Group Nepal will handle distribution.
