Kathmandu — The Nepali feature film “Muktipur,” based on a revenge-driven storyline, officially began filming on Tuesday following an auspicious ceremony in Kathmandu.
The production commenced with a script and clapboard worship ceremony at Indrayani Temple in Basundhara, attended by the film’s production team, actors, and technical crew.
Directed by Sunil Pandey, the film is being produced under the banner of Sahiba Films Production in collaboration with Everest Film Academy. Although Pandey has directed several short films and documentaries, “Muktipur” marks his directorial debut on the big screen. The story of the film is also written by Pandey himself.
Everest Film Academy, which has been providing training in acting, directing, editing, cinematography, and sound for the past decade, is stepping into film production for the first time through this project.
The film is produced by Vijay Rajbanshi and Roshan Paswan, with Bishal Shrestha serving as the executive producer and Keshav Gautam as co-producer. Sanjay Gurung and Suraj Chaudhary are the line producers. Samrat Basnet is the action director, Sharad Mahato the cinematographer, Aki Thakpa the art director, and Rupak Pratap Adhikari the production head.
Belonging to the crime-revenge genre, the film portrays the struggles and eventual success of a character whose life changes dramatically after a significant incident affecting his family.
The film features Nazir Hussain, Gaurav Pahari, Prakash Shah, and Avonraj Upreti in lead roles. Actress Aakriti Budhathoki will make her big-screen debut with the film.
Actor Nazir Hussain expressed confidence that “Muktipur” would become an important milestone in his career, promising audiences a different story and performance from his previous works.
Similarly, Aakriti Budhathoki, who previously appeared in music videos, said she is excited about her big-screen debut and believes working with an experienced production team will be a major opportunity.
The film also features a large supporting cast including Ghanshyam Joshi, Saraswati Adhikari, Anil Kurmi, Swayam KC, Haron Ali, Uday Ali, Sara Sharma, Anamika Lamichhane, Bikash Khanal, Rupesh Lama, Ayan Pariyar, Shravan Ramtel, Bhola Shah, Safal, Gopal Mahatara, Bimal Yadav, Ojaswi Bikram Bista, Sudip Timilsina, and Prabin Kumar Chaudhary.
The film has begun shooting with a 40-day schedule, while its release date has yet to be announced. According to executive producer Bishal Shrestha, the team aims to release the film within six months after completing the shoot.
