The title song of the film ‘Roll No. 1’, produced under Seven Seas Cinema, has been officially released, drawing attention to its strong social message.
Written, composed, and performed by Prashant Shiwakoti, the song highlights the pressure created by the ranking system in Nepal’s education system.
The song portrays the story of a young boy from a rural area who struggles under academic pressure and social expectations. Through powerful lyrics such as “Everyone is foolish, only one is wise,” the song strongly criticizes the practice of valuing only top-ranked students.
Focusing on child psychology, the song attempts to depict the impact of a flawed education system on children’s mental well-being. It critiques rote learning, memorization-based education, and excessive competition.
The music video beautifully captures Himalayan landscapes, traditional stone houses, and rural school life. It contrasts a boy forced to study late by candlelight with his natural desire to play volleyball and spend time with friends, adding emotional depth.
With the slogan “The story of every student,” ‘Roll No. 1’ is set to release nationwide on Jestha 15 (Republic Day).
Directed by John Yonjan, the film features Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Srijana Adhikari in lead roles. Child actors include Nirvik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal, and Sijal Shrestha.
The film is produced by Binod Paudel and Janvi Paudel, with Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain as co-producers. The story is written by Mahesh Dawadi.
Shot in various scenic rural locations of Myagdi district, the film’s DOP is Shiv Ram Shrestha. Music is composed by Prashant Shiwakoti, background score by Rohit Shakya, editing by Madan Ghimire, production design by Kala Sangroula, and production head Manoj Joshi.
According to the producers, the film will be released simultaneously in Nepal and international markets. It will be distributed by Rich Entertainment and J.M. Cinema.
