Nepali film Lalibazar is now set for nationwide release on Friday, Baisakh 25, after the Patan High Court refused to continue an interim order that had temporarily halted its screening.
A joint bench of Justices Khadananda Tiwari and Netraprasad Acharya issued the decision on Wednesday, paving the way for the film’s release. Production company Shatkona Arts confirmed that the movie will now hit theaters as scheduled.
Producer Max Dipesh Khatri said the film was never intended to offend any community or social group. According to him, the story revolves around the emotional bond between a mother and daughter, highlighting a mother’s struggle and sacrifice for her child.
Director and writer Yam Thapa also dismissed ongoing speculation surrounding the film, expressing confidence that audiences would not find its content hurtful after watching it.
The film stars Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhay Baral, Prem Pandey, Pradeep Dhakal, Asha Poudel and several other artists.
The movie also marks the acting debut of Bishal Devkota and Prashansa Subedi. Devkota is known for his active involvement in theater as both an actor and director, while Subedi is regarded as a promising Gen-Z actress.
Directed and written by Yam Thapa, the screenplay and dialogues of Lalibazar were jointly developed by Yam Thapa and Pradeep Bhattarai. The film is produced by Max Dipesh Khatri and Rabindra Singh Baniya, with Pradeep Bhattarai serving as executive producer.
