Kathmandu — Nepali film Lalibazar has received an overwhelming response from audiences since its nationwide release on Baisakh 25. The film, which centers on the emotional bond between a mother and daughter and the struggles of a single mother, has deeply connected with viewers.
Since the release, actress Swastima Khadka, actor Rabindra Singh Baniya, debut actor Bishal Devkota, debut actress Prashansa Subedi, director Yam Thapa and other members of the production team have been visiting theaters across Kathmandu Valley to interact with audiences.
Many viewers reportedly became emotional while watching the film, with several leaving theaters in tears. Audiences said the movie strongly highlighted the value of mothers and the responsibilities toward daughters. The portrayal of a single mother struggling to educate and raise her daughter particularly resonated with viewers.
Actress Swastima Khadka said the audience response has encouraged the entire team. According to her, viewers clearly understood the message the film intended to deliver, and even male viewers were seen getting emotional during screenings.
Debut actor Bishal Devkota shared that the appreciation he has received for his first film has been overwhelming. Audiences reportedly praised his portrayal of the character “Narayan,” calling him by the character’s name during theater visits.
Similarly, debut actress and content creator Prashansa Subedi said audiences of all age groups have embraced the film. She added that the support and positive feedback have motivated her further in her acting journey.
Director Yam Thapa stated that assumptions and speculations surrounding the film become clear once audiences watch it themselves. He described ‘Lalibazar’ as a family-oriented emotional drama suitable for all viewers.
The film features performances by Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhaya Baral, and Prem Pandey among others.
Written and directed by Yam Thapa, the screenplay and dialogues were jointly developed by Yam Thapa and Pradeep Bhattarai. The film is executive produced by Pradeep Bhattarai, while Max Dipesh Khatri and Rabindra Singh Baniya serve as producers.
