Kathmandu: Nepali filmmaker and writer Mao Tse Gurung’s upcoming feature film “Pension Patta” has emerged as a strong attraction in the international market even before its official release date is announced.

As Nepali cinema continues to expand its global footprint, the film has been drawing increasing interest from overseas distributors, boosting its pre-release market prospects.

According to the production team, the distribution rights for the United Kingdom and Hong Kong were sold prior to the announcement of the film’s release date. Sapan Entertainment Limited acquired the UK rights, while Main Dragon Limited secured the Hong Kong distribution rights.

Adding to its international success, the Australian and New Zealand distribution rights have now been acquired by The Back Events. The producers say the film has been receiving encouraging responses from multiple international territories ahead of its release.

Produced under the banner of Mao Tse Gurung Films, “Pension Patta” explores themes of Nepali society, family relationships, human emotions and personal struggles. Gurung’s previous films, “Purano Dunga” and “Dayarani,” received significant recognition both in Nepal and among overseas audiences, contributing to heightened expectations for the new project.

The film is said to present a human-centered story about hope, aspirations and the challenges people face in pursuit of a better life.

The cast includes Dayahang Rai, Sunil Thapa, Gaumaya Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai, Pushkar Gurung, Sol Gurung, Suraj Tamu, Raj Thapa Kauncha, Manoj Gurung, Anusha Rai and Lunibha Tuladhar, among others.

Mao Tse Gurung serves as both writer and director. The technical team includes cinematographer Sushan Prajapati, editor Ker D. Koich Linuch, colorist Rajendra Moktan, sound designer Uttam Neupane, sync sound recordist Nabin Shrestha, VFX artist Manoj Shrestha and art director Raju Yakcha.

The film’s songs are written by Hark Saud, Shiva Baraili and Suraj Tamu, with music composed by Manoj Thapa Magar, Shiva Baraili and Suraj Tamu.

Following the sale of rights in the UK, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, discussions are reportedly underway with distributors in several other countries. The production team believes the growing enthusiasm in overseas markets could open additional international opportunities for the film.
