Actress and filmmaker Rekha Thapa is returning to direction after eight years with her upcoming Nepali film “Maya Bhannai Yesto Hola,” which features a strong ensemble cast including veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha and actress Srishti Shrestha.
The film brings together a wide lineup of actors, including Madan Krishna Shrestha, Srishti Shrestha, Dil Shrestha, Niti Shah, Namrata Shrestha, Usha Khadgi, Laxmi Giri, Bishal Pahadi, Sangam Bhandari, Ravi Dangol, Sunita Shrestha and Binod Paudel, among others.
Actor Dil Shrestha plays the lead role in the film, marking his third feature appearance. He has previously collaborated with Rekha Thapa in the 2018 film “Hero Returns,” and made his debut in “Parkhi Rakha Hai” (2011).
Although he stepped away from films for several years, Shrestha said he remained actively engaged with the industry and has now returned with improved preparation and performance. He described sharing screen space with veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha and Rekha Thapa as both a challenge and an opportunity.
The film is currently in post-production and is scheduled for nationwide release on Bhadra 26, coinciding with the Teej festival. Distribution rights have been acquired by Reech Entertainment, Apple Entertainment and FD Company.
This project marks Rekha Thapa’s first directorial venture outside her own production banner, Rekha Films.
Produced under Diya and Amu Films, the movie is backed by producers Hari Narayan Shrestha, Maya Devi Shrestha, Nawaraj Shrestha, Jasmine Shrestha and Prakash Shrestha.
The screenplay is written by Dhruv Lamsal, who stated that the film presents a social emotional narrative through a love story.
The technical team includes cinematography by Sudip Baral, chief assistant direction by Aniruddha Aatreya, film coordination by Rajan Ghimire, music by Prashant Siwakoti, costume design by Sujeni Mall, makeup by Priya Karki, and production management by Chudamani.
