Kathmandu – A biographical film based on the life of veteran Nepali actor Madan Krishna Shrestha, titled Madan Krishna, has officially been announced. The project was unveiled during a grand ceremony held in Kathmandu.

The film was formally launched by Madan Krishna Shrestha and his longtime artistic partner Hari Bansha Acharya. The biopic will portray the highs and lows of Madan Krishna’s life, chronicling his personal struggles, achievements, and remarkable journey.

The film will be directed by Milan Chams, who is widely recognized for his work in the biopic genre. His previous biographical films include Anjila, based on the life of Nepal women’s national football team captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba, as well as Blind Rocks and Bobby.

This marks the first-ever biopic based on the life of a Nepali actor. While biographical films on personalities from other fields have been made—including Acharya, based on legendary singer Bhakta Raj Acharya—no Nepali actor has previously been the subject of a feature-length biopic.

Actor Mahesh Tripathi will portray Madan Krishna Shrestha, while actress Keki Adhikari has been cast as his wife, Yashoda. The film will cover Madan Krishna’s childhood, his years as a government employee, his iconic collaboration with Hari Bansha Acharya, his inter-caste marriage, and other defining moments of his life.

The cast also includes Rajaram Poudel, Kiran KC, Rusha Nyaupane, Yaman Shrestha, and Deshbhakta Khanal. However, the actor who will portray Hari Bansha Acharya has yet to be revealed.

The announcement ceremony began with a traditional Dhime procession to welcome Madan Krishna Shrestha. He became emotional during the felicitation ceremony, shedding tears while seated beside Hari Bansha Acharya.

Expressing his happiness, the 76-year-old actor said he was delighted that audiences would now have an opportunity to understand his life more closely. He also acknowledged Hari Bansha Acharya’s invaluable contribution to his success.

Hari Bansha Acharya described the biopic as a matter of pride and expressed confidence that director Milan Chams would do justice to the story.

“The director is the captain of a film. Milan Chams is one of the most courageous and energetic filmmakers in the Nepali film industry. I believe he is capable of presenting this important story with honesty and justice,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Nepal Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC said making a biopic is a challenging task, adding that both the actors and the makeup team would need to put in tremendous effort.

Presented by Vintage Motion Pictures, the film is produced by Rajkumar Shrestha. The screenplay is written by Yam Thapa, with Padam Bahadur Shrestha (Babu Shrestha) serving as Director of Photography. Milan Shrestha is the editor, Alish Karki is composing the background score, and Bharat Kandel is handling sound design.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in the second week of Bhadra. The film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment, and F.D. Company, while OSR Digital has been announced as the digital partner.
