Kathmandu: The official trailer of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Gaunthali’, scheduled for theatrical release on July 17 (Shrawan 1), has been released, offering an emotional glimpse into a story of women’s empowerment, autism, education, and deeply rooted social traditions.

Running for three minutes and 20 seconds, the trailer follows a young woman’s struggle to pursue her education while navigating the unexpected challenges of married life. It also portrays the emotional journey of a newlywed bride whose husband is on the autism spectrum, highlighting the realities she faces after marriage.

The trailer explores themes of gender inequality, the lack of support women often receive from other women, conservative social values, and the determination to pursue education despite overwhelming obstacles. It also sheds light on society’s perception of people with developmental differences.

The film features Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka in the lead roles, alongside veteran actors Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Lunibha Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwari Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sita Devi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina, and Rajendra Nepali. Child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also appear in the film.

Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Gaunthali is based on a story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, with the screenplay and dialogues co-written by Kapil Rijal, Nishchal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire.

The film is presented by Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production. Sarala Rijal serves as the executive producer, while Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal are the producers.

The soundtrack features music by Shambhujit Baskota, Thaneshwor Gautam, and Prashant Siwakoti, with background score by Alish Karki. Cinematography is by Hari Humagain, while Milan Shrestha has handled the editing.

Notably, Dr. Bhola Rijal produced a film with the same title more than two decades ago, which is widely regarded as Nepal’s first musical feature film and celebrated a successful 51-day theatrical run. The new Gaunthali, directed by his son Dr. Kapil Rijal, brings a fresh story under the same iconic title.

The film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment, and FD Company, while OSR Digital serves as its digital partner.
