Kathmandu — The trailer of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Gaunthali’, scheduled for release on Shrawan 1, has been receiving an overwhelming response from audiences and is currently ranked No. 2 in YouTube’s movie trending chart in Nepal.
Released four days ago, the trailer has generated strong buzz with its emotional storytelling, prompting positive reactions across social media and YouTube.
One viewer commented, “This film should break the record of ‘Purnabahadurko Sarangi.’” Another wrote, “This is the kind of Nepali film we want to see—heart-touching. Wishing it great success.”
The performances of Arun Chhetri, who plays a young man with autism, and Simran Khadka have drawn particular praise. Audiences have also appreciated the cast’s promotional efforts ahead of the release.
Many viewers described the trailer as deeply emotional. One comment read, “The trailer itself made me cry. I can’t imagine what the full film will do.” Another praised the film’s performances, dialogue and emotional depth, saying they were genuinely moving.
The trailer highlights the struggles of a newly married woman, the challenges faced by a young man with autism, the pursuit of education, and the conflict between traditional beliefs and personal dreams.
Directed by Dr. Kapil Rijal, the film stars Arun Chhetri, Simran Khadka, Madankrishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Lunibha Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sita Devi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina and Rajendra Nepali. Child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also appear in the film.
Based on a story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, the screenplay and dialogues were jointly written by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Nishchal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal and Giriraj Ghimire.
Produced under the banners of Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, the film features music by Shambhujit Baskota, Thaneshwor Gautam and Prashant Siwakoti, with background score by Alice Karki. The film will be distributed by Rich Entertainment, Apple Entertainment and F.D. Company, while OSR Digital holds its digital rights.
Notably, Dr. Bhola Rijal produced an earlier film titled ‘Gaunthali’ more than two decades ago, widely regarded as Nepal’s first musical feature. The new film is directed by his son, Dr. Kapil Rijal.
