Kathmandu: The U.S. distribution rights for the upcoming Nepali film ‘Gaunthali’ have been acquired by Seven Seas International Films, marking the beginning of the film’s international distribution ahead of its theatrical release.

The agreement was signed by director Dr. Kapil Rijal, actor Arun Chhetri, producer Suman Giri, and Roshan Subedi on behalf of Seven Seas International Films.

As the release date approaches, the production team has begun selling the film’s international distribution rights. Director Rijal said interest from overseas distributors has increased significantly following the positive response to the film’s trailer.

Scheduled to release across Nepal on July 17 (Shrawan 1), Gaunthali will open in major U.S. cities a week later on July 24 (Shrawan 8).

According to Rijal, the growing buzz surrounding the film has generated strong inquiries from the overseas market, boosting confidence in its international prospects.

The film’s trailer is currently ranked No. 1 on YouTube’s trending list in Nepal and has received an overwhelmingly positive response from viewers. The strong pre-release momentum has raised expectations for a successful run at both the domestic and international box office.

More than two decades ago, Dr. Bhola Rijal produced the original ‘Gaunthali’, widely regarded as Nepal’s first musical feature film and a milestone in the country’s film history. The new ‘Gaunthali’, directed by his son Dr. Kapil Rijal, carries the same title while presenting a fresh story.

Produced under the banners of Bhola Rijal Production and Suman Giri Production, the film stars Arun Chhetri, Simran Khadka, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Ghimire, Lunibha Tuladhar, Rabindra Jha, Ishwori Baral, Sanjog Rasaili, Sita Devi Timilsina, Laxminath Timilsina, and Rajendra Nepali. Child actors Anshu Oli and Prince Nepali also feature in the cast.

Sarla Rijal serves as the executive producer, while Suman Giri and Dr. Kapil Rijal are the producers. Indu Giri, Manish Rijal, Pralaya Rijal, and Jeevan Oli are co-producers.

Based on a story by Dr. Bhola Rijal, the screenplay and dialogues were jointly written by Dr. Kapil Rijal, Nishchal Kunwar, Niraj Nepal, and Giriraj Ghimire. The film features cinematography by Hari Humagain, editing by Milan Shrestha, and Giriraj Ghimire as chief assistant director.
