‘Halee’ Trailer Released: Film Based on Chhaupadi Challenges Menstrual Taboos and Calls for Social Chang
The trailer of “Halee” set to release on August 7 (Shrawan 22), has been officially unveiled. The production team launched the trailer during a special event on Friday, while it was simultaneously released through the OSR Digital YouTube channel.
The trailer highlights the harmful practice of Chhaupadi, portraying a story in which a girl is prevented from attending school during menstruation. It also depicts traditional beliefs that prohibit women from seeing their fathers or other male family members for 21 days after their first period.
Speaking at the trailer launch, producer Pooja Gurung said the film is inspired by a real story. She emphasized that genuine social change can be brought by ordinary people and argued that political speeches alone cannot transform the country.

Director Om Pratik stated that the film was inspired by the reality of western Nepal, where girls are still isolated in the name of Chhaupadi during their first menstruation. He added that expanding social awareness is more important than merely achieving academic qualifications.

Produced by Pooja Gurung and Jasmine Shrestha, the film is written and directed by Om Pratik. The cast includes Pramod Deep, Sujata Thapa, Bidya Karki, Saroj Khanal, Aruna Karki, Arjun Gurung, Nabin Shrestha, Kanchan Dulal, Kamal Gaunle, and Bishal Pahadi, while director Om Pratik also plays a lead role.

A promotional song featuring actresses Deepa Shree Niraula, Pooja Sharma, and Mithila Sharma has already gained popularity among audiences, which the makers believe will further boost the film’s appeal.

Produced in collaboration between Japura Films Production and Shubh Chirayu Films, “Halee” carries the message that even a single determined individual can become a catalyst for national transformation.

The film features music by veteran composer Shambhujit Baskota, along with Babul Giri and Krishna Bhardwaj. The main song, written by Jasmine Shrestha and composed by Babul Giri, is sung by Babul Giri and acclaimed singer Shanti Shree Pariyar.

The film’s executive producer is Arjun Bhusal, co-producer Namrata Bhandari, line producer Laxman Karmacharya, and chief assistant director Jeevan Nath Gautam. It has been shot by Rahul Rai, edited by Ram Prasad Chaudhary and Bipin Malla, with action direction by Kumar Maharjan.

“Halee” will be distributed by National Cine Group Pvt. Ltd., while OSR Digital serves as its digital partner.
