Kathmandu: Nepali film ‘Halee’, scheduled for nationwide release on August 6 (Shrawan 22), has received an overwhelmingly positive response during its special screening held at Big Movies, City Centre, Kathmandu.
The screening attracted a full house, with audiences and members of the Nepali film industry praising the film for its compelling portrayal of the deeply rooted Chhaupadi tradition. Viewers commended the filmmakers for addressing a sensitive social issue through a powerful and emotionally engaging narrative.
Encouraged by the audience’s response, director Om Pratik and producers Pooja Gurung and Jasmine Shrestha expressed confidence ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
Centered on the discrimination, abuse, and hardships faced by girls under the Chhaupadi practice, Halee aims to deliver a strong message that meaningful social change can begin with a single individual. The film’s trailer, promotional song, and posters had already generated significant attention before its premiere.
Written and directed by Om Pratik, the film is produced jointly by Japura Films Production and Shubh Chirayu Films. Arjun Bhusal serves as executive producer, with Namrata Bhandari as co-producer, Laxman Karmacharya as line producer, and Jeevan Nath Gautam as chief assistant director.
The cast includes Pramod Deep, Sujata Thapa, Saroj Khanal, Aruna Karki, Arjun Gurung, Bidya Karki, Nabin Shrestha, Kanchan Dulal, Kamal Gaule, Bishal Pahadi, and director Om Pratik himself.
The film also features a promotional dance number performed by renowned Nepali artists Deepashree Niraula, Kiran KC, Dilip Rayamajhi, Priyanka Karki, and Pooja Sharma.
The cinematography is by Rahul Rai, editing by Ram Prasad Chaudhary and Bipin Malla, and action direction by Kumar Maharjan. The soundtrack features music by Shambhujit Baskota, Babul Giri, and Krishna Bhardwaj. The featured song includes lyrics by producer Jasmine Shrestha, music and vocals by Babul Giri, with vocals by Shanti Shree Pariyar. Choreography has been jointly handled by Om Pratik and Kabiraj Gahatraj.
The film will be distributed by National Cine Group Pvt. Ltd., while OSR Digital is serving as its digital partner.
