Why Was the Film, Initially Titled ‘Sayapatri,’ Renamed ‘Kumari’?

Director Dinesh Raut appears excited about his teenage love story film Kumari. At the film’s press conference on Wednesday, he looked quite confident about his movie.

During a question-and-answer session with journalists, he also responded to the common reaction that his film is like a Nepali copy of the Bollywood film Saiyara. Clarifying that his film is completely different from what is being claimed, he argued that such comparisons are superficial.

Although the film is now being released under the title Kumari, it has been revealed that Dinesh did not keep this name as his first priority initially. In fact, he had wanted to name the film Sayapatri, which was also its working title, and it had even been registered under that name at the Film Development Board.

Later, when another production company obtained permission to use that title, Dinesh was forced to change the film’s name. Even though he did not get the original title, he claimed that Kumari suits the subject matter just as well.

The popularity gained by the song “Doko Bunne,” the nationwide musical tour conducted for promotion, and the excitement generated by the film’s trailer have led to expectations that the film could perform well at the Nepali box office. Cinema halls have also provided a significant number of shows.

Since a Nepali teenage love story is coming to the big screen after a long time, the Nepali film industry is watching it closely.

The film marks the Nepali silver screen debut of Abishek Khadka and Aakriti Rajbhandari.
