Renowned cinematographer Shailendra Dhoj Karki, credited for his distinctive visual storytelling in several hit and superhit Nepali films, is stepping into film direction with his debut project titled “Pokhareli Masino.”
The film was formally announced on Monday with a Shubhamuhurat ceremony at Banglamukhi Temple in Lalitpur. Based on a social drama centered on the relationship and struggles between a father and daughter, the film will be jointly directed by Karki and his actress wife Shanti Giri, while production responsibilities will be overseen by Karki himself.
Named after a popular variety of rice, following the success of Mansara, Pokhareli Masino will feature a screenplay written by Shanti Giri and co-written with Karki.
The announcement event saw the participation of producer-director Dipendra Gauchan, along with actors Tika Pahadi, Pariksha Limbu, Aviral Pratap Adhikari, Upendra Subba, among others. The shooting schedule begins Tuesday with the team heading to Pokhara, while principal photography will officially commence from Wednesday. Filming is expected to be completed within a 30-day timeframe.
The cast includes Tika Pahadi, Praveen Khatiwada, Pariksha Limbu, Mao Tse Gurung, Anil Subba, Ankit Khadka, Sajan Thapa Magar, Abhay Baral, Aviral Pratap Adhikari, Hiwala Gautam, and others.
Targeted for release during Dashain next year, the film will feature lyrics by Shravan Mukarung, music by Kaliprasad Baskota, action direction by Shankar Maharjan, cinematography by Karki himself, and editing by Nimesh Shrestha. The project is estimated to be made on a budget of approximately NPR 30 million.
