Kathmandu: Writer-director Aakash Baral has spoken out against misinformation surrounding the release date of his upcoming film ‘Zero Degree’, urging content creators and media platforms to verify facts before publishing claims.
Baral, who previously wrote and directed ‘Behuli From Meghauli’, shared a detailed Facebook post stating that the Nepali film industry is losing something more valuable than money—trust.
He stressed that a film’s release date is never a matter of speculation, but the result of months of planning, distribution agreements, marketing strategies, coordination with exhibitors, and the collective efforts of hundreds of people.
His remarks came after reports suggested that no Nepali films are scheduled for release during the Tihar festival. Baral rejected the claim, saying that ‘Zero Degree’ had officially announced its Tihar release more than a month ago.
According to him, publishing unverified information not only affects an individual film but also undermines the credibility of the entire production team, misleads audiences, and sends the wrong message to the industry.
“Everyone can make mistakes. I do too. Mistakes can be acknowledged, but negligence cannot,” Baral wrote.
He also criticized the growing tendency to prioritize social media engagement over fact-checking, arguing that the pursuit of views and online reach should never come at the expense of accuracy.
Concluding his statement, Baral reiterated that ‘Zero Degree’ remains scheduled for release during Tihar, as officially announced, and called on media professionals and content creators to act responsibly by verifying information before making it public.
Zero Degree’ is jointly directed by Sajan Kafle and Aakash Baral, the duo previously acclaimed for their film ‘Behuli From Meghauli’.
