The trailer of the upcoming Hindi film The Kerala Story 2 has sparked intense controversy across India, drawing sharp criticism from filmmakers, actors, and political figures even before its theatrical release.

The trailer features a scene depicting a Hindu woman being force‑fed beef, raising concerns over sensitive religious and communal issues. The depiction has led to widespread debate on social media and news platforms.

Veteran filmmaker Anurag Kashyap criticized the trailer, calling it “propaganda” and alleging it promotes division: “This film is propaganda and seems designed to create societal division.” Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh defended the film, saying, “Our intent is to highlight sensitive social issues; personal criticism is unacceptable.”

Actor Prakash Raj shared images of Kerala’s traditional beef, pork, and fish dishes, commenting: “All food cultures exist in harmony, and everyone coexists peacefully.” Student groups and youth organizations in Kerala organized beef festivals in protest of the trailer’s portrayal.

Several Kerala political leaders criticized the film as “communal” and potentially harmful to the state’s social harmony, with some demanding its ban.

The film is scheduled for 27 February 2026. The trailer’s controversy is expected to fuel further public debate, influencing audience anticipation and discourse before the release.
