Kathmandu. The ninth edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) has officially begun in Kathmandu on Thursday, opening with the screening of Iranian director Hishant Farahmand’s film “My Daughter’s Hair.”
The opening ceremony, held at QFX Cinema in Civil Mall, Sundhara, was attended by Communication Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet as the chief guest.
Special guests included Brazilian Ambassador Carlos Alberto Den Hartog, Pakistani Ambassador Abrar H Hashmi, Sri Lankan Ambassador Ruwanthi Delpitiya, Dinesh DC, and Bollywood filmmaker Ramesh Sippy of Sholay fame.
Veteran Nepali film personalities including Prem Basnet, Chaityadevi Singh, and Samudra Regmi were also present.
The festival will screen 88 films from 40 countries, with special non-competitive screenings of Chinese and Russian films.
Events like Russian Film Days and Xizang Panorama will offer free screenings at select venues, while competitive films will be ticketed. The festival also features 10 interactive sessions where global filmmakers will share their experiences.
NIFF aims to strengthen Nepal’s film market and international collaboration while celebrating global cinema.
