Kathmandu — The 23rd edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival 2026 (KIMFF) will be held from May 27 to 31 at Chhaya Center in Thamel, Kathmandu.

According to the organizers, the festival will showcase more than 50 films from 29 countries this year. The lineup includes internationally acclaimed feature films, documentaries, short films, and adventure-based cinema.

Under the “Nepal Panorama” section, films portraying contemporary Nepali society, local lifestyles, and social realities will be screened. Festival Director Ramyata Limbu said the selected films are expected to spark discussions on current social issues in Nepal alongside entertainment.

The festival will open with the Nepal premiere of Shape of Momo directed by Indian filmmaker of Nepali origin Triveni Rai. The film portrays the life, struggle, and identity of Bishnu Patra, who leaves her city job and returns to a Himalayan village.

To mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Switzerland, a special discussion program titled “Alpine Alliance: The New Wave of Nepali Cinema” will also be organized. Nepali filmmakers associated with Swiss film labs and international festivals are expected to participate.
