Kathmandu: A new Nepali television series, ‘Yo Katha Hoina’ (This Is Not a Story), has been officially announced along with the release of its first promotional teaser. The series aims to portray the realities of Nepali society from nearly a century ago, highlighting its social structure, lifestyle, and deeply rooted caste discrimination.

The announcement and teaser launch took place during a special event organized by Rashtriya Lok Sancharakarmi Nepal at Dalo Restaurant in Anamnagar on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by veteran artists, media professionals, and distinguished personalities from various sectors.

Veteran actor Madan Krishna Shrestha, the chief guest at the event, praised creator Shree Prasad Thapa for his long-standing contribution to Nepali television series, expressing confidence in the project’s quality.

“Shree Prasad Thapa is one of the most respected figures in Nepali serials. His work has consistently been impressive, and many audiences also recognize him through the song ‘Lahureko Karim Bol.’ The title itself suggests that this is more than fiction—it reflects reality. I’m looking forward to watching the first episode,” he said.

Lead actor Ravi Giri said the production team had worked extensively to create a series that offers a fresh narrative and presentation compared to current television content.

“We have put tremendous effort into this project. It offers a different taste and storytelling style, and we believe audiences will appreciate it,” he said.

Chandramani Gautam, President of Rashtriya Lok Sancharakarmi Nepal, said it was a matter of pride for the organization to host the launch of such a culturally significant project.

Writer, director, and lead actor Shree Prasad Thapa said the series is not merely designed for entertainment but seeks to reflect Nepal’s historical social realities.

“After a long gap, I have returned with a story that I wrote and directed myself. The series depicts Nepali society from nearly 100 years ago, portraying its way of life, social hierarchy, caste-based discrimination, and other realities as authentically as possible,” Thapa said.

The series is written, directed, and headlined by Shree Prasad Thapa. Cinematography has been handled by Sagar Khadka, Gharshyam Pokharel, Shiv Sharan Neupane, and Roshan Poudel, while editing is by Ashok Chaudhary and Roshan Poudel. The assistant directors are Sandesh Lamichhane and Deepta Prakash.
