Kathmandu: The production of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Rato Ghera – The Red Circle’, directed by Anil Budha Magar, officially commenced on Thursday with a traditional script worship ceremony at Banglamukhi Temple in Patan.
Backed by Bishram Films Pvt. Ltd., the film will begin principal photography on July 9 (Ashar 25). Starring Dayahang Rai and Miruna Magar in the lead roles, the project features an ensemble cast of nearly two dozen actors. Most of the filming will take place across the Kathmandu Valley.
The producers have also confirmed the film’s theatrical release date as December 4 (Mangsir 18).
According to director Anil Budha Magar, the film explores social and emotional themes and is inspired by true events. Producer Jeevan Gurung said special emphasis has been placed on delivering a compelling narrative backed by strong technical execution, expressing confidence that the experienced cast and crew will enhance the film’s overall impact.
The film is produced by Jeevan Gurung, Kavita Gurung, Bhojendra Gurung (Bhoj), and Sarun Sherchan, with Suman Gurung and Khem Rana serving as co-producers. The soundtrack will be composed by Manoj Thapa Magar and Sagar Ale Magar.
Distribution rights for the Kathmandu Valley have been acquired by Kafiya Films through Govinda Shahi, while Kuber Cine Distribution will handle distribution outside the valley.
The screenplay is written by Raju Syangtan, with cinematography by Shishir Bisankhe. Sandesh Rai serves as production controller, Janaki Kathayat is the costume designer, and Gurkesh Gurung is responsible for lighting management.
The ensemble cast also includes Rajani Gurung, Arun Pun, Sunil Pokharel, Bhola Sapkota, Suraj Tamu, Khadga Bahadur Pun (Khabapu), Sushmita Kunwar, Bhawana Khapangi Magar, Kavita Ale, Bijay Poudel, Bal Bahadur Gurung, Ingi Hopo Koich Sunuwar, Umesh Sunam, Shekhar Chapagain, Ram Babu Regmi, Subash Gajurel, Subash Singh Thakuri, Ramik Singh Thakuri, Sunil Tamang, and DB Gurung.
Speaking at the launch event, Dayahang Rai and Miruna Magar expressed their excitement about being part of a film inspired by true events, saying they look forward to bringing a meaningful story to audiences.
