Kathmandu: Once a young film enthusiast who travelled from Palpa to Butwal just to watch movie shoots, Karan Singh has grown into one of Nepal’s most experienced production executives, having worked on more than 70 feature films over the past two decades.

Currently serving as the executive producer of the successful Nepali film ‘Aa Bata Aama’, Singh began his film career on July 14, 2001 (Asar 29, 2058 BS) with ‘Yastai Rahechha Jindagi’, initially working as a production helper.

He credits late producer and actor Keshav Bhattarai for introducing him to the industry and continues to regard him as his mentor.

After assisting on several productions, Singh was entrusted with the role of full production executive at just 17 years old on the film ‘Hami Sathibhai’, thanks to the confidence shown by Dilip Rayamajhi, Sunil Dutt Pandey, and director Rabi Aryal.

Over the years, he has worked as a full production executive on more than 70 Nepali feature films, around 10 international productions, and over 300 music videos.

In 2021, Singh also served as a line producer for the Mount Everest Fashion Runway held at the Everest Base Camp, an event that earned a Guinness World Records certificate.

He later made his executive producer debut with ‘Mayavi’ before taking on the same role in ‘Aa Bata Aama’, directed by Chandra Pant, with whom he has collaborated on several projects.

Reflecting on his journey, Singh said no one in his family had any connection to the film industry, but his passion for cinema motivated him to pursue the profession while he was still a student.

Drawing from years of experience, he believes Nepali audiences continue to embrace films that families can watch together—stories that are emotionally engaging, relatable, and rooted in local culture.

Singh also recalled watching films such as ‘Gorkha Paltan’, ‘Mayavi’, and ‘Aa Bata Aama’ alongside audiences in cinemas to better understand viewers’ reactions.

“If a film genuinely touches the audience’s heart, it never betrays the viewers, the producers, or the director,” he said.
