Bilateral Agreement Between the Film Development Board and Nepal Police for a Nationwide Anti-Drug Campaign

 The Film Development Board and Nepal Police have signed a bilateral agreement for drug control and prevention. The agreement was formalized at an event organized at the Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, under the presence of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar. The agreement was signed by Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh D.C. and Additional Inspector General (AIG) Tek Bahadur Tamang, under the coordination of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.

As per the agreement, both institutions will conduct awareness programs against drug abuse, spread public awareness, and encourage the younger generation towards a positive lifestyle. In particular, films will be used as a medium to highlight the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The agreement also includes discouraging any films, advertisements, or social messages that promote drug use and substance abuse. Additionally, various awareness-based films and video materials will be produced and screened in cinemas. Awareness programs will be conducted at schools and universities, and community-level campaigns against drug abuse will be launched.

Both parties have committed to appointing a focal person from each side to work collaboratively on drug control and substance abuse reduction strategies under the joint initiative of the Film Development Board and Nepal Police.

On this occasion, Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh D.C. emphasized the crucial role of the film industry in supporting anti-drug campaigns and driving social change.

The event was attended by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Nepal Students’ Union Central President Dujang Sherpa, ANNFSU Central President Samik Badal, ANNFSU (Revolutionary) Central Vice President Mohan Dhakal, Vice President of the Federation of Journalists Nitu Pandit, civil society leaders, and high-ranking officials from Nepal Police.

Similarly, renowned artists and celebrities such as Saroj Khanal, Pradeep Khadka, Rabindra Khadka, Pushkar Lama, singers Sunita Dulal and Indira Joshi, and actress Srishti Khadka also participated in the event.
