“The film ‘Rajaganj,’ set to release on Friday, Chaitra 1, had a grand premiere show yesterday, Wednesday, at Big Movies, Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu.”
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, female leader Hisila Yami, Member of Parliament Amresh Kumar Singh, director Navin Subba, writer-director Manoj Pandit, director Dipendra Lama, actresses Keki Adhikari, Reema Bishwokarma, Luniva Tuladhar, Shilpa Maskey, actor Nazir Husen, the film’s production team, artists, and journalists were present in large numbers at the premiere show.
As they exited the theater, the attendees praised ‘Rajaganj,’ calling it an excellent film. The movie has been described as a nuanced portrayal of various incidents between the Madhesi and Pahadi communities during the Madhesh movement. Having already been screened at renowned international film festivals, the film’s positive reception before its official release is expected to boost its commercial success.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai stated that ‘Rajaganj’ was made in the context of the Madhesh movement and, as a direct witness to those events, he found the film highly realistic and fact-based. He said, “What saddens me is that some significant portions of the film we watched today have been cut. I don’t know how much was removed, but if key parts were censored, it’s like chopping off the film’s backbone.”
Female leader Hisila Yami also praised ‘Rajaganj,’ saying, “In this film, the main character, played by Dayahang Rai, represents an indigenous man. Alongside him, there is also a character from the Arya caste. All these characters collectively bring forth a sensitive subject—oppression, a mother’s right to give birth, and the tragic situation where a baby is denied life before birth. If someone censors a film in the same way, its essence is lost. Therefore, no scenes from ‘Rajaganj’ should be cut before its release.”
Actresses Keki Adhikari and Reema Bishwokarma also praised the film and recommended all Nepali cinema lovers to watch ‘Rajaganj.’ Actress Luniva Tuladhar emphasized, “A hero is not just a man. Age and skin color do not matter. ‘Rajaganj’ is a beautiful film, and I urge everyone to watch it in theaters.”
Actor Nazir Husen, appreciating the film’s depiction of the Madhesh movement, remarked, “Discrimination exists not only between Madhesis and Pahadis but also among Madhesis themselves. Addressing such issues is crucial, and ‘Rajaganj’ beautifully presents them, making it a must-watch film.”
Lead actor Dayahang Rai stated, “This film offers multiple layers of storytelling. Everyone who watched it today gave positive feedback. It’s releasing tomorrow, Friday, and I hope the audience will love it too.”
Lead actress Asha Magarati shared her experience, saying, “During the premiere, I was more focused on the audience’s reactions than the film itself. Seeing them laugh at certain moments made me very happy.”
Director Deepak Rauniyar acknowledged the struggles faced due to censorship but expressed satisfaction with the premiere’s response. He said, “It’s disappointing that we won’t be able to show everything we intended to the audience from Friday, but we hope that what we are able to present will still be appreciated.”
