A new Nepali film titled Rato Passport has been announced. The film will portray the struggles of Nepalis who travel to European countries with the aim of acquiring citizenship—symbolized by the “red passport.”

Presented by Seabirds Pictures and Hopes Buzz, and in collaboration with Trident Concept, the film will be directed by Simson Tamang. The story is written by Michael Tamang, while the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary.

A few days ago, the production team posted on social media: “Everyone says—once you go there, you get settled. The family’s future becomes secure. You get the red passport…” However, the official announcement came only on Sunday with the release of a minimalist poster. The design mimics the cover of a Portuguese passport.

Loka Bahadur Tamang is the film’s producer, and Pravesh Poudel will serve as the executive producer. Poudel previously directed America Boys and Bihe Pass.

The technical team includes Amrit Marhatta for makeup and SFX, Rabindra Nyaupane as the cinematographer, and Jayan J. Waiba as the music composer. The poster and publicity design will be handled by Royal Bhimsen (Trident Concept team).

Director Simson Tamang has been actively involved in the Nepali film industry as an action director and chief assistant action director for many years. Since 2013, he has worked on action films such as Bouncer, Bodyguard, Love Sub, Madhumas, Black Flag, Killa, Aishwarya, Radhe, Rudra, and Pinjada Back Again. He has also worked as an action director in Dhanya Maya Jaal, Asur: The Mystery (Hindi), and Lappan Chhappan 2.

According to the production team, cast and crew members from Nepal will be selected soon, while actors based in Europe and the UK will be chosen through auditions. The film will be shot in Portugal, other European countries, and Nepal.
