Under the direction of Ghanshyam Lamichhane, the Nepali film “Chitra” is now available to audiences around the world via Prime Video (Amazon Prime Video).
The film, which was theatrically released in Nepal on Poush 27, 2080 B.S. (January 11, 2024), is now streaming on Prime Video.
Viewers with an Amazon Prime subscription can watch the film from any country, making it accessible in over 200 countries.
The Hindi dubbed version of the film has been digitally distributed internationally by Release World. A notable feature is that the film has been released with subtitles in 43 languages, making it accessible to a multilingual audience.
According to the production team, “Chitra” is the first Nepali film to be released globally on Amazon Prime. Previously, some Nepali films were available only on Prime Video’s UK or USA platforms, but “Chitra” has achieved a global release.
Director Lamichhane expressed his great excitement at the worldwide release of a film he directed.
Lamichhane said, “The success of Chitra has the potential to be exemplary for the Nepali film industry. The film appears to have succeeded in conveying the message that Nepali stories can reach the global market and that high-quality films can be made in Nepal. Our story has now reached audiences in a language and medium they understand. This is just the beginning.“
The film stars Santosh Adhikari, Menuka Pradhan, Shubhechchha Khadka, Arpan Thapa, Pramod Agrahari, Anjana Baraili, Simran Khadka, Ayushi Dhakal, Binod Paudel, Kapil Sharma, Kumar Gurung, Ujwal Dhakal, Dipesh Gajurel, and Prakash Ghimire.
Produced under the banner of Santosh Adhikari Films, the film is co-produced by Asyap Entertainment Nepal and Asyap Entertainment Australia. The producer is Ashish Thapa Magar, with Santosh Adhikari as the executive producer and Raj Shrestha as the associate producer.
Based on a story by Ajay Adhikari and screenplay by Manish Gautam, “Chitra” revolves around the emotional dynamics of a relationship between a retired father and his daughter, exploring themes of family and emotional depth.
The film features cinematography by Mahesh Paudel and joint editing by Banish Shah and Sandesh Shah.
