A book titled “Chalchitra Patrakar Itihas Dekhi Bartaman Samma” (Film Journalism: From History to the Present) — chronicling the evolution of Nepali film journalism — has been officially launched in Kathmandu.
The book, published with the support of the Film Development Board (FDB), was unveiled during a special ceremony held at the FDB auditorium.
The collective book launch was attended by several notable figures including FDB Chairperson Dinesh Raj Dahal (D.C.), Film Artistes Association President Mohan Niraula, Stunt Artistes Association President Narayan Pradhan, Producers Association President Nawal Khadka, Film Directors Society President Janakdeep Parajuli, Film Technicians Association President Pushkar Lama, Dance Association President Janak Karki, Film Association President Narendra Maharjan, and Film Journalists Association President Samir Balami.
Also present were former presidents Shantipriya and Vidur Giri, actor Kedar Ghimire, writer Dr. Navaraj Lamsal, and senior journalist from RSS Prakash Silwal, among others.
During the event, FDB Chairperson D.C. emphasized the significant role of film journalism in the growth of Nepali cinema, stressing the need to promote investigative and analytical reporting in the sector.
Likewise, Samir Balami, President of the Film Journalists Association, stated that the organization has been striving to professionalize and purify film journalism while encouraging new generations to participate actively in the field.
A panel discussion on the importance of investigative approaches in film journalism was also held, featuring D.C., Mohan Niraula, Shantipriya, Dhruba Lamsal, Madan Rizal, and Raghunath Sapkota.
The participants agreed that film journalists should remain independent and uphold journalistic ethics, rather than acting as promoters for specific films or artists.
