Kathmandu — A new Nepali OTT platform, ‘UNA Digital’, has officially launched in Nepal. The inauguration took place in Kathmandu on Saturday, with the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, and Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC presiding over the event.
The platform will allow audiences who cannot visit cinemas to watch films, shows, and original series online. According to CEO and producer Ujwal Guragain, users can access the content starting February 1 (18 Magh) via Apple iOS and Google Play apps, as well as browser and TV versions.
Guragain stated, “This OTT platform aims to support Nepali films and creators. It will not fail them. This marks the beginning of a new era.”
At launch, the platform will feature Ashish Dhakal’s series ‘Sambandha Timro Mero’, ‘Crime in Story’, actor Salon Basnet’s film ‘Room Number 8’, Guragain’s own production ‘Real Rhythm’, series ‘Choice’, ‘Cinepat News’, Ayusha Maharjan-hosted ‘Chelibeti’, and ‘Kathmandu Night’.
The company plans to offer separate OTT windows for domestic and international audiences. The platform will officially start on February 14, with subscription details to be announced soon.
Minister Kharel emphasized, “UNA Digital must cater to changing technological trends and audience preferences. It will play an important role in reaching global audiences.”
Actor and producer Deepak Raj Giri added, “Such platforms are essential for filmmakers. OTT can generate more revenue than cinema halls, creating a better investment environment for directors and producers.”
The platform is launching with an initial investment of NPR 60 million and will feature content in Nepali, as well as Indian, Bangladeshi, and Japanese content in the near future.
