Kathmandu — The Film Journalists Association Nepal has announced the establishment of an endowment fund in memory of its late former president Dinesh Sitaula, marking his 13th-day death ritual with a condolence programme.
The event, chaired by association president Samir Balami, was attended by Film Development Board chairperson Dinesh DC as the chief guest. The association announced plans to raise an endowment fund exceeding NPR 1 million to honour Sitaula’s contributions to Nepali cinema and film journalism.
Balami said a special programme would be organised every year on Magh 18 in Sitaula’s memory, along with the introduction of the ‘Late Dinesh Sitaula Film Journalism Memorial Award’ during the association’s annual celebration.
Addressing the gathering, DC recalled Sitaula’s role in bridging senior and younger generations of journalists and filmmakers, announcing NPR 51,000 in support from the Film Development Board. Nepal Film Artists Association president Mohan Niraula also paid tribute, contributing NPR 10,000 personally.
Several media houses, filmmakers and individuals pledged financial support to the fund, while the team of the film Jhari Pachhiko Indreni committed NPR 1 million on the occasion of its 51st day of release. The association said the list of contributors would be made public in phases.
