The 13th Nepal-Africa International Film Festival–2025 has announced a call for film submissions. Participating feature films, television films, and short films will be selected based on specific criteria, as per the organizers.

The festival is scheduled to take place in the first week of Magh (mid-January 2025) in Kathmandu. Forms for participation were opened two months earlier. The event is being organized by the College of Journalism and Mass Communication and Bilkashan Creation, with co-organization by the Film Development Board. According to the organizers, film submissions have been pouring in for the festival.

This year, in addition to African films, movies from other international communities will also be included. While African films will be given special priority, some of the finest films from around the world will also be showcased. Filmmakers interested in participating are encouraged to submit their films by the end of December 2024.

Submissions can be made via FilmFreeway.com, email, or by directly contacting the organizers’ office. The festival invites films in various categories, including Nepali films, indigenous films, short films, and documentaries. Students can also participate by submitting their creative short films.

Outstanding films will not only be screened during the festival but also awarded for their excellence.

Dr. Manju Mishra, the festival chairperson and Principal of the College of Journalism and Mass Communication, highlighted the importance of the event in fostering cultural exchange between Nepal and Africa. She stated, “Through this festival, we aim to connect two distinct continents via cinema. Our goal is to ensure that Africa is viewed through its own lens.”

According to Dabbu Kshetri, the festival director, this event has been organized annually for the past 14 years, except for one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the festival will once again span three days.

In addition to film screenings, the festival will include workshops, interactive discussions on Nepali cinema, and other activities.

The event is expected to strengthen collaboration between Nepali and African filmmakers while showcasing global cinematic excellence.
