Kathmandu: Nepali film “Crawling Crows: Aankha”, directed by Jaun Yonjan, has been nominated for the prestigious Remy Awards at the WorldFest–Houston International Film Festival in the United States.

The festival will be held in Houston, Texas, from April 24 to May 3, 2026, bringing together filmmakers from around the world. It is considered one of the oldest independent film festivals globally.

Previously, “Aankha” won the Best Film award at the 62nd Asia Pacific Film Festival, marking a historic achievement. It became the first Nepali film to receive the festival’s top honor.

Founded in 1961, WorldFest–Houston is known as one of the most prestigious platforms for emerging filmmakers. Legendary directors such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, David Lynch, and Ang Lee were among early recipients of the Remy Award.

The nomination highlights the growing international presence of Nepali cinema and its increasing ability to compete on global platforms, according to film critics.

Director Yonjan said the recognition reflects the power of Nepali storytelling to connect with global audiences, calling it a proud moment following its Asian success.

The film portrays the struggles of people living in squatter settlements and features actors Smita Lamichhane, Pashupati Rai, Nisha Adhikari, RK Mehta, Vijay Baral, and Buddhi Tamang.
