International distribution rights for the Nepali film Pension Patta have begun selling ahead of its scheduled release, with UK and Hong Kong rights secured at a reportedly high price.
Directed by veteran actor Mao Tse Gurung, the film has attracted overseas buyers even before the release of any promotional material, a development the production team describes as highly encouraging.
The UK screening rights have been acquired by Sapana Entertainment Limited, while Main Dragon Limited has purchased the Hong Kong rights. According to the director, negotiations for additional territories are currently in their final stages.
The film features an ensemble cast including Dayahang Rai, Sunil Thapa, Buddhi Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai, Pashupati Rai, and Gaumaya Gurung, among others. Newcomers Bishwas and Maya are also making their debut in the Nepali film industry through this project.
Written by director Mao Tse Gurung himself, the story moves beyond its title’s suggestion of a former Gurkha narrative and instead focuses on the emotional transformation of a greedy young man who gradually evolves into a generous and compassionate individual.
Produced under Mao Tse Gurung Films, the project includes investors from the UK and Hong Kong. Cinematography is handled by Susan Prajapati, while editing is done by Kair Koich. The film will be distributed nationwide by RR Films.
